Once you begin your journey into meditation, you’ll soon discover the power that it has to reveal truth and peace in your life. In a fast paced world where everything keeps getting faster and more complicated, it’s important to deepen your practice with meditation.

With regular practice you’ll find that you’ll be able to go deeper into meditation without much effort. As you practice, you’ll be better able to deal with distractions and achieve a certain depth of meditation in a shorter period of time. If you practice for just 30 minutes per day, you’ll be able to go deeper each time.

Deepening Your Meditation Practice

You may be wondering what it means to deepen your practice. It’s definitely a topic that’s difficult to put into mere words. It’s similar to talking about how to deepen your love. If you’ve been in love you’ll know in your heart what it feels like to experience the depth of love. The same is true when you meditate, you’ll know what it feels like as your practice deepens.

  1. Focus. A big part of deepening your practice is working on an improved focus. Find something that works for you.
    • First try experiencing eyes open meditation. Meditate with a small focal point and don’t let your gaze go astray during your session. You can also try eyes open meditation without the need for a strict focal point; this may help you to keep your focus within.
    • Alternatively, you can explore the option of eyes closed meditation. Many people enjoy the aspect of shutting out the visual sense, while others think it’s too much of an escape from true life, so do what feels right.
  2. Your breath. Your breath is also a part of your focus. It’s how you break up your life into a series of moments. Take a moment to breathe in the good and a moment to exhale the bad. In order to deepen your practice, experiment with different breathing techniques.
    • Work on the length of your breaths. Some people decide to work with their moods when they work on breath length. It’s a way to just go with how you feel, instead of deciding on a set pattern of breathing.
    • Use a mantra. There are many mantras to choose from or you can even create your own depending on how you feel or what you like.

  3. Your posture. Your posture also has an impact on how deep your practice will go. Choose a position that’s comfortable for you.
    • During sitting meditation, it’s always a good idea to maintain good posture. This means don’t slouch! The location of your legs usually doesn’t matter as much.
    • If you maintain a good posture without hunching over, you tend to maintain your alertness and you’ll be less likely to fall asleep. Remember that your goal is to remain in the present moment and not merely to relax.

Imagine for a minute how movies have a sound track to place you in the mood for what is on the screen. You too can have a soundtrack of peace and love as your background playing constantly for you each moment.

Meditating is anchoring into you the feeling that “all is well.”

You don’t need to think that meditating is weird. It is a gift we all have and can use for “free”. Isn’t that wonderful to hear?

Everyone can meditate. However, you have to find what works best for you.

When I first tried meditating, it didn’t work for me. I read a few books and still could not grasp it until I heard an audio. The process of listening helped me instead of just reading about it.

You are wise. Open to the wisdom, invite it. Say “I am now open to wisdom.” The wisdom is flowing to you now. See it, imagine it, feel it, know it.

You no longer wish to feel stress in your life. Gently release stress, gently release guilt, gently release fears that no longer serve you. Gently, lovingly, let it go now with the breath. Say “open” to the light and feel it, see it, imagine it flowing, caressing you, surrounding you and protecting you.

Your journey now is one that is peaceful and fulfilling. You are surrounded by light and everlasting love of All That Is.

Negative feelings disrupt your positive feelings, and often drive you to judge others. They lead you to distrust your own feelings and to discredit your own capabilities.

On the other hand, you can tune into the infinite wisdom of your own guidance by tuning out the negative vibrations.

A very popular way to chip away at your negative feelings is to meditate. By quietening your mind you allow clarity and solutions to come to you instead of focusing on and growing the problem. For example, in a rushing river you most likely wouldn’t notice boulders falling in, but in a still pool of water one pebble can cause a huge ripple effect.

There is much clarity to be had when you make the effort to listen. Relax, be peaceful and release old emotions that no longer serve you. Your meditation can be short, just remember it is a tool you can use whenever you need it.

    • The amount of time to set aside is up to you. Some people do well with 10 minutes of meditation time while others need at least a half hour.
    • It’s also important that you find a great place for your meditation. You’ll need an environment that’s both relaxing and quiet, so that nothing takes your attention away from meditating.
    • Turn off loud appliances, the television, and even your phone, so you’re not distracted or interrupted. Sometimes going outdoors can provide an inspirational place for meditation.
    • Setting a calm mood will help you meditate. Closing the curtains, turning on soft light, or lighting your favorite scented candle might help you relax.
  2. Clear your mind. Even when we’re still, our minds continue to think. It’s easy to allow the problems of the day to come into your mind while you’re trying to meditate. It’s important that you focus your attention on meditating and work to clear your mind.
    • Breathe deeply and concentrate on relaxing your body. Picture each part of your body going limp as you relax. With each breath, inhale peace and exhale your worries.
    • Envision a place that brings you happiness. This place can be real or imagined as long as you’re relaxed and not thinking about your problems.

  3. Find your inner peace. Find your place of inner peace when you meditate. It’s the place inside of you that’s quiet and far away from the cares of the world.
    • When you’re able to totally clear your mind, you can usually bring yourself to a place where you truly feel peace and happiness.
    • Allow yourself to stay in this place for a while, calming and relaxing your body and mind.

Let your meditation be easy

It’s not hard to meditate; just be mindful not to force. Let it come naturally and it will be easy.

While mediataion may seem difficult when you first get started, over time it becomes easier and easier to reach your goal of finding peace and relaxation. Remember these strategies, and you’ll find meditation to be a very pleasurable experience.
