Follow Your Dreams, Why You Should Never Wait Until Later

Following your dreams is fundamental to your sense of purpose and the level of self fulfillment you feel in your life. You may feel that you have all the time in the world to accomplish your dreams.

follow your dreamsYet there are reminders every day that your time on Earth is short. The reality is there’s no way to predict how much time you’ve got left, which is exactly why there’s no time like the present to make your dreams come true! Following are some simple, key steps you can begin taking right now to start steadily moving towards your dreams and living the purposeful, fullfilling life you were meant to.

Concentrate On The Positive

It’s vital to start with positive thoughts. When you think positively about yourself and your dreams, you’ll begin to believe that you can achieve anything. These initial positive emotions can lead to a dedicated drive and enthusiasm that’ll help build lasting momentum.

Remember that nearly everyone feels overwhelmed when you’re about to embark on a long journey. That’s exactly why it’s so easy to fall into negative patterns of thinking, but you must fight these thoughts. It can be hard to imagine that so much can be achieved simply by having positive thoughts, but it’s true!

The truth is, when you think about something as scary as “I could die tomorrow,” it’s hard not to be drawn into a panic. But instead of worrying about how much time you and your loved ones have left, concentrate on making the present moment as productive as it can be towards your true calling.

Careful Planning

Once you’ve decided to take action, and you’ve battled your negative thoughts, it’s time to make some feasible plans to get you where you want to be.

Keep these tips in mind as you go through your planning phase:

  1. Set realistic goals. If your goal is going to take years, give yourself years. You can’t expect everything to happen overnight.
  2. Be specific. Include all the details in your plans. If you stumble along the way, you’ll be comforted in knowing that you have your detailed plans to help you stay the course.
  3. Reward yourself. When you’ve made progress towards your goal, give yourself a reward. Even if your ultimate goal is far off, it’s fun and motivating to enjoy rewards as you complete steps toward your goal.

Action In Small Steps

One of the biggest tips when it comes to following your dream is to break down your actions into small, manageable steps.

For example, your goal could be to become an airline pilot or you might want to start your own business. Both of these goals are hefty and have the potential to take years of work and training. When you first think about these goals, it’s easy to be scared of how daunting they seem. Instead of resorting to fear, try breaking down these goals into dozens or even hundreds of small steps. Chances are that each small step is not nearly as overwhelming as the big picture.

At the same time, always keep the big picture in mind. When you visualize yourself reaching your end goal, it can be an image that gives you the drive to keep going during tough times.

Inspiring Others

Once you’ve achieved your goal, consider inspiring others to reach their goals, too. Perhaps you have some friends or family members who say things like, “I’ve always wanted to do that,” but they remain working at their dead end job.

Help them take action!

You’ll know from experience that, while it may be a risk, the reward is more than worth it.

Yes, following your dreams is even a reward in itself! It’s fulfilling. It brings you joy in the present and hope for the future. So carpe diem – seize the day!

How To Be On Purpose And Start Living A Happy Life

Are you on purpose in your life?

Are you on purpose in your life?

Do you feel unhappy in your life? Are you pestered by a feeling of emptiness, as if there is something missing? If so, then this article will help.

Tony Robbins speaks about what he calls the “art of fulfillment” and specifically about your inherent need to grow and contribute. It’s through your sense of growth and contribution that you gain a sense of self fulfillment — which is the essence of happiness.

This is very powerful stuff. For isn’t fulfillment really what you strive for?

I looked up the definition of fulfillment in the dictionary. Here’s what I found:

1. the act or state of fulfilling: to witness the fulfillment of a dream; to achieve fulfillment of one’s hopes. 2. the state or quality of being fulfilled; completion; realization: a vague plan that had no hope of fulfillment. 3. the process or business of handling and executing customer orders, as packing, shipping, or processing checks. 4. a feeling of satisfaction at having achieved your desires 5. the act of consummating something (a desire or promise etc.)

Four out of these five things are about that feeling you get that makes you feel whole. And it’s the feeling that you are growing and that you are contributing that leads to that sense of fulfillment. It stands to reason then that if you find yourself unable to shake the sense of dissatisfaction with your life that has overcome you, that feeling should serve as a powerful clue that your life is not on purpose.

The solution? Get on purpose.

Get clear about what you want what your true life purpose is. What’s your target? You’ll know because it will be something you are passionate and emotional about. Tap into that emotion and then decide — right now, today — what you’re going to do about it in order to move in the direction of your own self fulfillment. That will put you on the path to to attracting more happiness in your life.

If you find this difficult to do or have trouble getting clear on things, there are a number of tools that can help you to begin to tune into your purpose. Perhaps the simplest is to just get tuned in to yourself and what’s important. Spend some time “getting quiet” and ask your self this simple question.

“Right now, given everything that is going on, what is it I really want that is most important to me?”

Write your answer down and then take some time to reflect on your answer in your journal or in a notepad. How does what you wrote down make you feel? What are some examples that illustrate what you want? Flesh out your answer in more detail in order to uncover your passion around what you want. Once you’ve done that, identify one simple step you can take today to move you closer.

What is Happiness? 5 Key Ideas

Happiness. People write about it, sing about it, make films about it, talk about it, and certainly chase it. But what is it exactly? How do you define happiness?

This can be such a complex topic. We all carry our own ideals about what happiness is or isn’t and, consciously or not, it’s that ideal definition that tends to be driving us day to day. Here are 5 key points or aspects of happiness to consider that may assist you in coming up with your own definition.

  1. Happiness is relative. When you think about being happy, if you’re like most people, you will tend to think of it in relative terms. “I want to feel happier” or “I’m just not happy”. There’s an implicit contrast between how you feel right now relative to how you used to feel or how you’d like to feel. That’s part of the reason that happiness can be so elusive — we’re prone to constantly comparing and the present moment is the anchor point from which we compare.
  2. Happiness is pleasure. Things that give us pleasure or that we find to be pleasurable tend to make us feel happy. So there definitely is an aspect of happiness which is tied to the experience of pleasure. Pleasure though, tends to be a short term experience. This may be another reason why the feeling of happiness can be so fleeting.
  3. Happiness is meaning. A deeper and more enduring quality of happiness seems to be tied to the sense of purpose or meaning you find in your life. The degree of self fulfillment you tend to feel determines your overall, long term state of satisfaction. Do you feel satisfied, or are you feeling restless? Generally, in the absence of a worthy pursuit, you will tend to feel stuck and uninspired.
  4. Happiness versus success. Do you tend to view happiness and success as different things? If so, why? If happiness is in fact what you most seek in life and if its absence leads to a lack of meaning, then doesn’t happiness imply success? Is it really possible to have one without the other? This is a personal line of questioning you will need to answer for yourself, but for me happiness is success.
  5. Happiness brings peace of mind. Do you catch yourself longing for simple peace of mind? How would it make you feel if you just felt secure and satisfied with where you are at right now? That’s the feeling we all seem to long for and it epitomizes the destination point most of us are really pursuing when it comes to the notion of seeking happiness. “I’ll be happy when … ” The intriguing question for me is, which comes first? Is it the acquisition of happiness that gives me peace of mind, or is it peace of mind that gives me happiness. Hmm …
