One of my all time
favourite authors and speakers is Andy Andrews.
In Andy Andrews'
book The Traveler's Gift, he covers the seven decisions that
determine personal success.
Having recently
seen Andy speak in person, I am inspired to talk about leadership.
Decision #1 in
Andy's book is this:
The Buck Stops Here
Many people I speak
with express unhappiness with where they are at in their lives, yet
have no idea where they really intend to go.
In fact, they often
only know they are looking for something better and are hoping to
find someone else who will take them there.
In other words, they
lack personal responsibility.
Personal
responsibility is about leadership.
Leadership is about
taking responsibility for your own results and realizing it's your
past decisions and your past best thinking that has determined the
results you are getting right now.
Now, if you are
unhappy with those results, I've got great news for you.
Today's results in no way dictate what tomorrow's results have to
be.

By assuming personal
responsibility and consciously changing the pattern of your decisions with a
clear eye on where you are intending to go, you begin to lead yourself to
much better results.
So "the buck stops
here" means that you are personally responsible for leading
yourself. No one else is going to figure it out for you.
Think of yourself as
the CEO of You. You are the full embodiment of everything you
desire -- the wildly successful and happy person who has "made it".
All of your goals and desires come true.
How would you expect
the CEO of you to behave? Is the CEO of you going to throw his
or her hands up in the air and say "someone figure it out for me"?
Of course not.
The CEO of you is
the person responsible for establishing your vision and steering you
towards it, moving forward all of the time.
Because when you are
the CEO, the buck does stop here.
So, tap into that
CEO mindset and start leading yourself to where you really want to
go.
And watch the
magical change in results that begin to unfold.
Simply make the
decision that, as of today, the buck stops here. |
