In Andy Andrews'
book The Traveler's Gift, he covers the seven decisions that
determine personal success.
Decision #2 is this:
I Will Seek Wisdom
Let me ask you this
question: who do you hang out with and what learning are you
applying in your life so that you are continuously raising your
financial IQ?
Understand that your
earnings will only ever reflect the level of learning you are
embracing.
So seeking the
counsel of others is a key aspect of seeking and finding wisdom that
can then be applied in your life, whether your financial life or
elsewhere.
And one of the
simplest, most effective ways of seeking the counsel of others is to
pay close attention to what you are reading and to whom you are
listening.
What's the last book
you read and finished? Do you know? If so, good for you.
Most people don't know because most people aren't reading and aren't
actively learning.
Now know this:
you won't generally learn a heck of a lot by reading serial fiction.
But there's a heck
of a lot of wisdom out there for the taking if you commit yourself
to reading one book a month on a topic such as wealth building or
personal improvement.
And by reading just
one book a month, you will have separated yourself from the pack in
a huge way.

One of my favourite ways of
seeking wisdom is to play audio books in my car. If you have a lengthy
daily commute back and forth to your work, think of the hours of learning
you can tap into each week just by playing a series of audio books.
What could possibly
be a better use of that time?

To truly seek wisdom
that will serve you, you must become discerning about what you watch
and listen to.
And of course, that
applies in a big way to the people you spend your time with.
You tend to be like
the people you spend your time with, so start spending your time
with successful people.
Seek out and network
with people who have what you desire. A lot of their ideas and
knowledge will rub off. And most successful people I know are
always happy to share ideas or advice.
Finally, pay
attention to when you may be hanging around with the "wrong" people
-- people who are not learning and who are not successful or are
perpetually stuck -- and stop spending so much time with them.
Because the more
time you spend with such people, the more apt you are to become just
like them.
You are either
growing or you are dying. Choose to grow every day by actively
seeking wisdom you can apply in your life, and then see what happens
to your results. |
