determine personal success.
Decision #6 is this:
I Will Greet This Day With A
Forgiving Spirit
If you do not have a
forgiving spirit, you are instead focused on the negative events of
the past.
Focusing on past
frustrations, events and wrongs creates some very heavy baggage you
must carry around.
Moreover, by
focusing and dwelling on the past and dragging around that heavy
baggage, how are you going to effectively keep your eyes on the
future and where you wish to go?
If you're looking
backwards, you aren't moving forward.
This is why
forgiveness is so important. By forgiving, you can let
yesterday go and devote all of your energy today to where you want
to go.

Firstly, there is a
difference between forgiveness and trust. Forgiveness is about the
past, whereas trust is about the future.
And to forgive someone for
something, they need not even know about it. Because forgiveness is
about you and your willingness to let go of the negative emotion
attached to past events.
The second important
point Andy covers is this: the one person you need to forgive
above all others is yourself.
We have learned to
be our own worst critics. And most of us have a tendency to
beat ourselves up over past decisions, events and outcomes. We
get mad at ourselves over promises we made to ourselves that we
failed to keep.
So the most
important thing you can do is to forgive yourself.
Yesterday has no
bearing on what tomorrow has to be.
Forgive yourself
today and free yourself to get on with the work of moving forward
towards where you wish to go. |
