The level of financial abundance you are able to attract into your life is going to be strongly influenced by the level of your financial education. While understanding the laws of the Universe and fostering an environment of motivation and inspiration matters, if you want to live a life of unlimited financial abundance, your financial education is equally important.
If you’re like most people, you’ve been socialized to believe you don’t have the capacity to do our own financial planning and that you need to rely on others to make key financial decisions for you … to essentially take care of you.
I’ve been in and around financial planning and financial services for the majority of my adult life.
My first job out of university was as a “financial planner” and I spent a year learning the sales side of the business as a licensed insurance agent working for a brokerage. In hindsight, it was a pretty neat experience because the firm I worked with was actually doing some pretty cutting edge things in terms of insurance and estate planning, fee for service planning, tax shelters … all of this back in the early 1980s.
However sales wasn’t particularly my thing and after a year I landed a job in the Head Office side of one of North America’s largest financial services companies.
I spent the next 19 years there, splitting time fairly evenly between the individual side of financial services — life insurance, disability insurance, segregated funds and mutual funds — and the group benefits side of financial services (think your employee benefits and savings plans).
I saw a lot and learned a lot.
Then I spent another three and a half years with one of North America’s largest banks.
One of the things that became clear to me in my financial services career was that the goals of the large financial institutions are not necessarily aligned with the goals of you the individual.
Specifically, the primary goal of the financial institutions is to grow their asset base. It’s not to deliver the best returns for the individual investor. It’s not to deliver the best coverage for the individual customer. Their overriding goal is to grow. Period.
So what does that mean to you when it comes to increasing your financial abundance?
It means that if you want to ensure you are making the best decisions for you and your particular financial situation, then you better start educating yourself … because the only person who truly has your best interests at heart is YOU.
And so that’s what the vision of our financial abundance and financial education content is about. It is about helping empower you to take control of your money and your finances by providing you information and tools that help your financial education … and hence your personal growth and development.
